THE LEARNERS MANNERS
Muslimeducationistshavebeen greatlyconcerned withthe learners’
affairs.Theyconstitutedtheconsiderablemethodsthataimatdisciplin-
ing and acquiring the virtuous ethics and noble manners.
- Learners shouldseek knowledge for God’ssake purely, neglecting
anyworldlyinterest orvaluelesspurpose.Godwillsurely raisethe re-
spectsofsuchlearners,facilitatethedifficulties,grantperceptionandin-
telligence, and combine the welfare of this world and the Hereafter. - Learnersshouldcarryoutthereligiousinstructionsandpreceptsas
wellasthe noble moralsandritualpractices. Theyshould fearGodin
theirhiddensaswellastheirappearancesandpurifytheirheartsagainst
discommendedqualitiessuchasenvy,ostentation,pride,andarrogance
sincethesecharactersarethevilestandthemostunassuming.Aneduca-
tionistsays,“Prayersareinvalidwithoutextrinsicpurification.Likewise,
heartworshipthatisseekingknowledgeisinvalidunlesstheheartsare
purified fromill mannersandimmoralqualities.Knowledge isnot the
abundance of narration. It is an illumination that is cast in hearts.” - Learners should enjoyself-possession andsedateness. The Prophet
(s)said, “Seekknowledgeandconvey topeople. Usecomposure, tran-
quility,andmodestytothosefromwhomyoulearnandthosetowhom
youconvey.Donotbethedespoticofknowledge.”.Imamas-Sadiqsaid,
“Seekknowledge and useself-possession, composure, and modestyto
thosefromwhomyoulearn.Donotbethedespoticofknowledge,other-
wisethewrongwillremoveyourright.”Studentsofsuchperfectmoral-
itieswillnaturallybetheexemplarsofothersandinfluencepositivelyin
the people’s behavior and ethics. - Learnersshouldexertalleffortsforseekingknowledgesinceitisnot
inspirational.Knowledgeisacquirable.Itdependsuponthescopeofthe
effortsthatlead toobtaining scientificfortune.Learnersshouldrespect
timeas wellas their lessons.Any tardiness willwaste the classes and
