ofAllah,theBeneficent,the Merciful.Anevidencefrom yourLordhas
cometoyou.Givefullmeasureandweightfairly,anddefraudnotmen
their things, and do not act corruptly in the lands, making mischief.
WhatremainswithAllahisbetterforyouifyouarebelievers,andIam
not a keeper over you. As soon as you readthis missive, you should
keepwhatisinyourhandsuntilamanthatreceivesthepositionwillar-
rive.’”
ThestoryshockedMuawiyacompletely.Hecouldnotcontrolhisnerves
whenhesaid,“Sonofabi-Talibsuffusedyouwithbraveryandinveigled
youbyhissaying,‘IfIamthedoorkeeperofaparadise,Iwillsurelywel-
come the people of Hamdan warmly.’”
Thememorablesituationofthisnoblemistresswasoneofthegiftsofthe
Islamicspiritthat neversubduetoaffronts andsubjugation,andnever
succumb to wronging and injustice.
