ENDURANCE


Enduranceisoneofthefactorsthatresultinthecoherenceandequan-
imityofpersonalities.Islamhaspaidspecificattentiontothisqualityand
urgedMuslimsonaccedingtoit.God’srewardwillbehighlyconsider-
able for the tolerant. God says:
Only the patient will be paid their reward in full without measure.
Andwewill mostcertainly giveto thosewho arepatient theirreward
for the best of what they did.
And reward them, because the were patient, with garden and silk.
Andwe madeof them imams to guideby ourcommand thenthey
were patient, and they were certain of our communication.
Surelywefoundhimpatient;mostexcellentthe servant!Hewasfre-
quent in returning to God.
Endurance, without which the minds would toppleand the powers
wouldretreat, isone ofGod’sgifts thatthe faithfulindividualsshould
accept.Inaddition,theyshouldmeetthehardshipwithacompatibleri-
gidityandserenereasoning.Islamhascalledforhangingonendurance,
foritisthe mostsignificantmoralvirtue.It wasmentionedin seventy
situations inthe Quran.It is greatly notableanda source of thesocial
erecting.Theimpatientnationisunabletoresistthecalamitiesanddiffi-
culties.Endurance,likewise,stirs upthe virtuoustendenciesthat thor-
oughlylackit.TheImamsbrightenedenduranceandpromptedonstick-
ingtoit.Imamal-Baqir(a)said,“Difficultiesandenduranceencompass
theParadise.He,whoevertoleratestheworldlydifficulties,willbeinthe
Paradise. Lusts and desires encompass the hell-fire. He,whoever sub-
mitstothe lustsanddesires,willbeinthehell-fire.”Imamas-Sadiq(a)
said,“Endurancerepresentstheheadofbelieving.Withthefadingofthe
head,thebodywillbe valueless.Inthesamemanner,whenendurance
vanishes, the believing will be valueless.”
