Asforthe fornicatressandthefornicator,flog eachofthemgivinga
hundredstripes. Andlet notpity forthemdetain youin the matterof
obedience to Allah,ifyoubelieve inAllah andthe lastday. Andleta
party of believerswitness their chastisement.
Somejuristshaveissuedthatagroupofpeopleshouldwitnesstheap-
plication of the whipping so that they would take example and stay
awayfromthisact.Thisfirmprocedureeradicatesthesocialcorruption
andposesdamsandbarriersbeforeeveryonethatintendstoperpetrate
thiscrime. The Frenchlegislation in thisregard isthe weakest. It con-
sidersfornicationasacrimeonlywhenperpetratedbythehusbandifit
iscommittedinthe wives’home. Anyhow,thepunishmentisnomore
thanafineofafewFranks.Wivesthatcommitadulteryaresentencedto
detention.Actually,suchpunishmentsdonoteradicatethecrimeoffor-
nication that ravages many souls.
