Prophet,whotaughtusthatourdesireshouldneverpassasinglebitof
foodthatmeetsourhunger,andasinglecloakthatcoversourgenitals.
Our desire and work should be for obtaining God’s satisfaction and
struggling His enemies.”
Thesewordsshowthebestitemsofthemilitaryeducation whensol-
diers andtheir commanders deny the material interests to seek God’s
satisfactionandtherewardoftheHereafter.Thewordsalsoreferredto
theunionofalloftheranksandunitsofthearmy,whoenjoythesame
idea that is based upon the Islamic guidance and spirit.
Asthe ruler of Egypt heard these words,he said,“O Virtuous man! I
have heard your wording in which you discussed the affairs of your
companions.Iswear youhavenot attainedthisgreatstandingforany
reasonotherthanadheringtowhatyouhavementioned.Similarly,you
havenot conquered those becausethey soughtthe earthly affairs. Un-
countablenumbersof the strongand firmRomansoldiers havejoined
us.Theydonotcare fortheirenemies,andyouwillnotbe abletocon-
quer them because of your weakness and fewness. You have resided
with us for monthsand undergone harshconditions. We feel pity for
yourfeeblenessandfewness.Wewanttomakepeacewithyouandgive
eachsoldiertwodinarsandthecommanderonehundredandthecaliph
onethousand.Youwilltakethesegoldendinarsandleavetoyourcoun-
try before those powerful soldiers arrive.”
Thecourageousleaderdidnotcarefortheruler’sthreatoftheRoman
soldiers.Heconfirmedhewouldfightiftherulerandhispeoplewould
notconverttoIslamorpaythetributessubmissively. Healsoprovided
excellent disputation, filled up with championshipsand sacrificing for
God’s sake, with that ruler..
Inanycase,thissituation unveilsthegreatscopeofthe Islamicmilit-
ary educationthat isunique initsgivingsof firmness inthe right and
self-denial.
