Lawsofheredityarewithintheinvoluntarymattersthatcoincidewith
the individuals all over the life phases.
Oneoftheclearestandmostfamiliarlawsofheredityisthebranches’
copyingtheoriginsintheextrinsicappearancesandtheprivatespecific-
ations.Thisfact isquiteevidentin allof the creatures.Seeds of cotton
yield nothing but cotton, and seeds of a flower produce nothing but
flowers that copythe motherin colors andcharacters. This copyingis
moreobvious in animals.Asmall catisbeing likeitsparents inshape
and other characters. For human beings, babies bear resemblances to
theirparentsin thegeneral, aswellasthe mostdiminutive,characters.
Theblackgivebirthofblackonesandthewhitegivebirthofwhite.Ina
likemanner, intelligenceandidiocyareinheritedcharacters.Thisisbe-
cause –as hereditists decide- human beings enjoy private qualitative
parts,calledgermplasma,thatneverexpirebutextendintheoffspring.
Wisemansays,“Ababyishisfather’shalfbrothersinceeachhasamoth-
er.Intheverymomentatwhichtheovumisfecundated,itdividesinto
twoparts.Onekeepsthe father’s qualitiestomovetothe newgenera-
tion, andthe otheris consumed during the processes of growth till it
changesintoafetus.”Byronsays,“Itistruethatmysonismine,butIsee
his forefathers havehands in thisdarling thing. They deform his self-
purity andbother his integrity with the unknown evil tendenciesthat
they bore in their hidden, and he had to receive by heredity.”
