Islamhasgivenagreatattentiontosonswhomarerequiredtorespect
andobeytheirfathersabsolutely.Thus,impietytoparentsisoneofthe
grandsinsforwhichGodhasthreatenedthehell-fire.God’sBookrefers
tothe obligationof benefactionandobedienceto parentsin more than
oneposition.Godhasattachedtheobedienceofparentstoworshipand
compliance with Him. He says:
AndyourLordhascommandedthatyoushallserveanybutHim,and
goodness toyour parents.If eitherorboth ofthem reachold age with
you, say not to them somuch as ‘Ugh’ nor chide them, andspeak to
themagenerousword.Andmakeyourselfsubmissivelygentletothem
with compassion and say: O my Lord! Have compassion on them, as
they brought me up when I was little.
Muslimsshouldtreattheirparentsaccordingtothisstraightcoursethat
represents Islam’s genuineness and constancy in education and teach-
ings. Muslimsshouldalsomeettheirparents with thoroughtravailsof
serviceandcharity,anddedicateallofthedeedstotheparents’useuntil
theyareemotionallysatisfied.Besides,thespiritsofcontentmentandac-
ceptance should be dispersed in the parents’ mentalities. Any single
word of boredom or annoyance should not be said to the old parents
wholacktheability ofmanagingtheiraffairs.Insuchcases, itisinsist-
entlyimperativetoserveandsuperintendthem.Itisquiteobligatoryto
useleniencywith themandsupplicateto Godfortheir goodandmeet
them with the best forms of dignifying and honoring since these acts
leadstoGod’sforgiveness.ReportsofconfirmationsoftheProphetand
theImamsonthecommitmenttobenevolenceandpietyintreatingpar-
entsare uninterruptedlyexistence inthe referencebooksofhadith and
history.
ImamAs-Sadiq(a)narrated:“OGod’smessenger!”amanaddressedat
the Prophet,“Ihave the desiretoparticipatein jihad.”“Yes,” saidthe
Prophet,“YoushouldstriveforGod’ssake.Ifyouarekilled,youwillbe
divinely aliveandrewarded withearnings. Ifyou die,Godwill be re-
wardingyou. Ifyoucomebacksafe,yoursinswillbetotallycondoned
assameasthe dayonwhichyour motherhadgivenbirth ofyou.”“O
God’smessenger!”saidtheman, “Ihaveagedparentswho claimthey
feel at ease with me and disagree to my departure.” “Then,” said the
