ing. It is therefore anticipated that future expansion
of research, teaching and ‘technology transfer activi-
ties’ will lead to pressure on the University Estate
and the need for additional space. Perhaps the most
interesting reason given for the development of the

new campus is the desire to protect ‘the treasured

environment of the University Park Campus

renowned and popular for the beauty and space of

its landscape’. Fundamental to the project is the

realization that an environment can only support or

sustain a limited development before its quality is
