Part V: Access and Windows SharePoint Services
1144
Summary
The process of publishing Access applications to SharePoint involves much more than has been
discussed in this chapter. My intent was to explain some of the reasoning behind the decision to
use SharePoint as the Web platform for Access applications and the implications inherent in using
SharePoint for this purpose.
When all goes well, an Access database can be migrated to SharePoint in a few minutes. However,
as you will see in Chapter 35, many things may go wrong in the process. Also, large applications
that contain a lot of database objects and data take quite a while to publish on Access Services in
SharePoint. Successfully publishing a moderate-sized Access application to SharePoint may require
a few days of work resolving the compatibility issues flagged by Compatibility Checker.
