M
icrosoft Access is a very sophisticated database-
development system. Although many casual
Access developers never move beyond building
simple forms and reports, you can do much more with
Microsoft Access if you know how. The chapters in this
part cover many, but not all, of the capabilities possible
with Microsoft Access. The topics in these chapters range
from creating advanced queries and integrating Access with
other applications, to controlling the user interface and
manipulating data with the VBA programming language.
This section of this book contains many examples that
show how to use these techniques in Microsoft Access
applications. You’ll make good use of this book’s CD as you
work through the examples presented in these chapters.
This part also includes a chapter on multiuser database
development. As you’ll soon see, there are considerations in
multiuser applications that never arise in single-user envi-
ronments. You’ll have to keep these principles and con-
cerns in mind as you work on applications destined for
multiuser environments to ensure that your applications
don’t confuse users or cause data loss as one user over-
writes another user’s work.
