Medullary Syndromes ( Advanced )
■ Wallenberg’s syndrome results from lateral medullary
injury; it most commonly occurs from a posterior
inferior cerebellar artery territory infarct.
■ In Wallenberg’s syndrome, there is injury to:
- Th e inferior cerebellar peduncle
- Th e spinal trigeminal tract and nucleus
- Th e anterolateral system (spinothalamic tract)
- Th e nucleus ambiguus
- Th e hypothalamospinal tract
- Th e vestibular nucleus
■ Dejerine’s syndrome results from injury to the
midline medulla.
■ In Dejerine’s syndrome, there is injury to the
hypoglossal nucleus, medial lemniscus tract, and
medullary pyramid.
