the toss and then be able to very quickly
rotate to capture the catch. If you are using an
accessory flash for this, and I suggest that you
do, make sure that the batteries are fresh and
increase the ISO on the camera so that the
flash doesn’t have to work as hard. This will
enable you to get a sequence of shots like
Figures 5-8 to 5-10 of the single women vying
to catch the bride’s bouquet. This was taken
using an on-camera flash unit to light up the
scene. The flash was aimed over the heads of
the women and bounced off the relatively low
ceiling. The flash is actually so bright that in
Figure 5-9 the light is causing the bride’s dress

The solution is to gel the flash to the same
color as the ambient light so that all the light
sources are the same.

ABOUT THIS PHOTO For this photograph, I used a slower shutter speed and a flash to add a little fill light to the scene. Taken at 1/50 second,
f/2.8, and ISO 800.
