CHAPTER
NIGHT AND LOW-LIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY / City Lights

Many times you will see multiple neon signs in
the same location as they fight for your attention.
Figures 8-10 to 8-13 all show examples of neon
signs; as you can see, the differences can really
make them interesting to photograph.

Neon

In urban areas, it seems that everywhere you look
there is a neon sign, especially if you walk around
any city center where there are restaurants and
bars. This is because there is a lot of neon used in
business signs, beer signs, and food signs, as well
as open or closed signs.

ABOUT THIS PHOTO Neon signs in a liquor store window. Taken at 1/100 second, f/2.8, and ISO 400.

NEON MUSEUM If you have ever wondered what happens to the neon signs when they

are no longer in use, then you need to know about The Neon Museum in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Neon Museum was established in 1996 as a place to collect and display neon signs
because neon was used a great deal in Las Vegas. If you want to visit the museum, you need
to make an appointment as it is not open to the general public. The information can be found
on their website at http://neonmuseum.org.
