JPEG


The JPEG file type is actually based on a form of
image compression created by the Joint
Photographic Experts Group back in 1992. This
is the most common image file type, and every
digital camera has the ability to save an image as
a JPEG file. The real advantages of the JPEG file

File Types


There are many different types of digital image
files. Two of the most common for digital photog-
raphy are JPEG and RAW. All dSLR cameras can
record images using the RAW file type.


Most dSLRs allow you to save the image as both a
RAW and a JPEG file at the same time. If you set
your camera to save both types of files for each
image, know that it will take up more space on
the memory card and it will take longer for the
camera to be ready to take the next photo. This
