Night and Low-light Photography Photo Workshop

You can see how the changes in the Reduce
Noise window affect your image in the 100 per-
cent preview window right next to the controls.
You can move the preview around so that you see
the critical parts of your image.
It is also a good idea to add sharpening to your
image. In the Lightroom interface, the sharpen-
ing and noise reduction tools are in the same
menu, but in Elements the sharpening tool is in
the Enhance menu under the heading Adjust
Sharpness. Clicking this menu opens the Adjust
Sharpness window, shown in Figure 11-3, which
gives you a lot of control over the sharpness of
your image.

Preserve Details. This setting helps to
limit how much the noise reduction affects
the details in your image. You can adjust
the detail by moving this slider.

Reduce Color Noise. This slider reduces
color noise only and is usually the first
slider I adjust.

Remove JPEG Artifact. If you are working
on JPEG images, it helps to turn this
option on to remove blocky artifacts and
halos from JPEG images.

ABOUT THIS FIGURE The Adjust Sharpness window allows you to control the edge sharpness in your image, which can be useful if you
need to bring back detail that was lost in the noise reduction process.
