Night and Low-light Photography Photo Workshop

You can also use the White Balance feature to
add a creative edge to the image and get colors
that might not have been there but still look
good to you. I would not suggest this if you are
working for a newspaper or magazine, but if this is
a creative image, then feel free to experiment. I
was feeling rather frustrated when I took the
image used in this series of examples because the
weather kept changing on me, and instead of the

neutral, and the software uses that information to
determine what the correct white balance should
be. As you can see in Figure 11-9, I picked a spot
in the clouds above the marina that I remember
as being dark gray, and the software picked a
white balance that was close to the Tungsten
white balance in Figure 11-8. You can keep pick-
ing new spots in your image to get the right one,
making this a really easy way to get the right
color.

ABOUT THIS FIGURE Picking the Tungsten white balance setting dramatically changed the color of the whole image and got it much closer
to what I remember seeing that night.
