NIGHT AND LOW-LIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY / Digital Postproduction

    ■ Fill Light. This slider lightens up the darker
areas and tries to get back some detail in the
deep shadows, while trying to maintain the
blacks. Be very careful using this feature
because it can really highlight any noise that
is present in your images.
■ Blacks. When you slide this setting over to
the right, more of the image becomes black.
This setting applies more to the darker areas
of the image than to the midtones or the
highlights.

the image gets darker. The amount of expo-
sure change is measured in stops, and the
exposure can be changed from –4 to +4 stops
from the original exposure value.

■ Recovery. This slider reduces the highlights

and tries to recover some of the detail that can
be lost in the overexposed areas of the image.
This is very useful if you move the exposure
slider to the right to brighten the overall
image, but you need to recover some of the
details that become lost when the brightest
parts of the photo become overexposed.
