the mind and body. These ultimately lead to illnesses of the body, mind and or soul.
Inaddition,theindividualsoulofapersonisinrealityonewiththeUniversalSoul,theSupremeBe-
ing,justlikeeachwaveintheocean,thoughtemporarilyextendingawayfromtheocean,isneverthe-
lessessentiallyonewiththewholeocean,always.Thegoalofmysticalspiritualityistorealizethat
youarenotanindividual,butinfact,thatyourtruenatureisuniversal.Whenyourealizethisgoalin
yourownlife,youwillhaveattainedenlightenment.Asyoumovetowardsenlightenment,allvirtu-
ousqualitieswillbloominyourpersonality.AllwillbeunderstoodandlovedbyyouastheSelf,and
youwillhaveperfecthealth.Youwillbecometheembodimentofsupremepeace(hetep)andjoy
(bliss).Youwillrealizethatyouwerealwaystheabodeofpeaceandbliss,evenwhenyouwereiden-
tified only with your psychophysical personality.
Theegoinapersondevelopsasaresultofthisidentificationwiththepsychophysicalpersonalityas
beingwhoyouare.Insteadofrealizingyourtruenaturetobelikethebluesky,expandingintoinfin-
ity,youidentifyyourselfwithasmallpatchofblueskycreatedbycloudsofmentaldelusionandig-
norance.Identifiedwiththatlittlepatchofblue,whenthementalcloudsdarkenaroundyou,(negative
thoughts,dullness,depression,etc.)youfeelgloomily.Whenthementalcloudsaresoftandfleecy
(positivethoughts,elation,optimism,mindisagitatedbymanydesiresandexpectation),youfeel
happy.Whenthementalcloudsdriftapartalittle(releaseoftensionduetoagitation,contentment,
harmony),youfeelexpansionandbecomepeaceful.Whenthecloudscontractagainyoufeelwor-
ried,unsettledandmiserable.Theinnerexperienceofthosewhoareunenlightenedisalwayscondi-
tionedbythementalcloudsofignoranceandegoisticdesiressurroundingthem,whicharealloftheir
owncreation,basedonwrongwaysoflookingatandthinkingabouttheworld.However,eventhen,
youarereallyalwaysonewiththeSelf(bluesky),completelyunaffectedbythementalclouds,and
always will be, deep down.
SoitistheSelfwhichsustainsyourpsychophysicalpersonalityandistheultimaterealitybehindit.
ThisinnermostSelfwithinyouiscompletelyunaffectedbyanyconditionwhichaffectsthepsycho-
physicalpersonalityofanindividual.Itfeelsnopain,sadness,orsorrow,butexperiencesthese
throughthemindandsensesofthepersonality.Itremainsalwayscompletelyblissfulandpeaceful.It
alwaysexistsintheawarenessofitsuniversalnature,butthemindandsoulareasifignorantofthis
deeperessence.Thisignoranceleadsthemtoexperiencecountlessepisodesofgainandloss,happi-
nessandsorrow,successandfailure,etc.,inaneverendingcycleoflife,deathandlifeagain(rein-
carnation).However,thereisawaytoendthecycle,bylearningthetruthaboutone’sinnermostself,
theDivineSelf.So,thegoaloftruemysticalspiritualityistoidentifymoreandmorewithyourtrue
nature,andlessandlesswithyourego-personality.Whenyoudothis,youwillbeabletogobeyond
alltheegoisticconcepts,whichyouhavetiedtoyourexistenceasapsychophysicalpersonality.This
includesanger,hate,greed,envy,jealousy,fear,insecurity,andattachments.Insteadyouwillbathein
