Fromaspiritualperspective,stressmaybedefinedastheseparationordisconnec-
tionofthesoulfromtheSpirit.Themoredisconnectionthereis,themorestress,
becausethedisconnectedfeelingleadsanindividualtofeelaloneinanoceanoflife
whereinhumanbeingsareinaratraceforsurvival,acompetitionforthefleeting
pleasuresoftheworldwhichneverends.Thedisconnectionmakesonefeelthat
thereisnopurposeorplanintheworld,andthenonefeelspowerless.Ultimately,
stressisthefrustrationofnotbeingabletosatisfytheyearningofthesoul,todis-
coverabidingpeaceandhappiness.Sinceapersondoesnotknowtheyalreadyhave
thiswithinthemselves,theysearchintheworldofpossessions,relationshipsand
careers,butsincethesedonothaveabidingreality,theycannotsatisfythesoul.The
quest,whichisultimatelyunfulfilling,isthestressproducerinlife,butthecauseis
spiritual ignorance.
Peoplegenerallyfeelthatstressissomethingthatisperpetuatedonthembyouterforces,asthedic-
tionarydefinitionabovestates.However,astheabovedefinitionbasedontheKemeticconceptstates,
stressisreallytheexpressionofapersonalspiritualcrisis.Asdiscussedpreviously,thegoalofspir-
itualityistostopyouridentificationwiththemindandbodyasbeing“me.”Thisidentificationwith
themindandbody(ego-personality)asbeingwhoyouareiswhatiscalledegoism.Fromthespiritual
perspective,youarenotthemindandbody.Thesearetransientprojectionsofyourtrueessenceinthe
worldoftimeandspace.Therealyouisbeyondthis.TherealyouistheDivineSelf,whichisever
unaffected by the experiences of the ego-personality in the world of time and space.
Themetaphorofthedreamgivesanunderstandingofthis.YourHigherSelfisequatedwiththeyou
thatissafelyasleeponyourbed,everunaffectedbywhateveryourconsciousnessprojectsintheform
ofadream.Inthedreamyouassumetheformofadifferentsubject,thedreamsubject.Nolongerare
youidentifyingwiththerealyouasleeponthebed,butratherwiththedreamcharacteryou.Inthe
dreamyou,thatis,youidentifyingyourselfasthedreamsubject,mayexperienceadversitiesandbe-
comefrustrated,yetyou,therealyou,asleeponthebed,istotallyunaffected.Andthoughthesead-
versitiesmayhavecreatedalotofstressforyourdreamcharacter,perhapsevenpushingthedream
charactertohaveaheartattack,whenthedreamisoverandyoureclaimyourrealidentityasthe
dreamer,ratherthanasthesubjectinthedream,allproblemsandstressesrelatedtheconditionsand
situations of the dream you are instantaneously dissolved along with the dream.
Justaswakingupfromthedreamdissolvedallyourso-calledstressesyouwereexperiencinginyour
dream,similarly,wakingupfromthedreamoftheworldprocesstoyourtrueidentityrestingonthe
bedofconsciousnesshasthesamecapacitytoeliminateyourstress.Thisprocessofbeingawaketo
one’strueSelfatalltimesisthegoalofspiritualpractices,howeverthisgoalisachievedbyrepeated
