matterofimmediatelifeanddeath,andtotreatthemassuchistrulyhazardoustoone’shealth.Even
ifonedoesnotsufferanimmediateheartattack,thestresshormonescreatelesions(tinymicroscopic
scars)intheheartmusclewhichoveraperiodoftimecanpredisposetoheartdisease.Thetransient
increasesinbloodpressureeventuallycausethemechanismsinvolvedinregulatingbloodpressureto
malfunction,leadingtoapermanentincreaseinthebloodpressure,predisposingtoavarietyofdis-
easesincludingstroke.Theincreasedfatsreleasedintothebloodstreamalongwithincreasedblood
coagulationfactorsandconstrictionofthebloodvesselsleadtovascularobstructionanddamage,
againpredisposingtoheartdisease,stroke,kidneydisease,etc.Theshuntingofbloodawayfromthe
digestivesystemandkidneyspredisposetogastrointestinaldysfunctionofallkindsandkidneydis-
ease,respectively.Thus,asaresultofthemind–bodyconnection,thementalimbalancereferredto
as stress, which results from a lack “Knowing Thyself,” leads to a myriad of physical diseases.
Peopleconsciouslychoosetoplaceorkeepthemselvesinsituationsthattheyknowarebeyondtheir
capacitytodealwith(basedontheirlevelofspiritualevolution),andthuscreatealotofstressfor
themselves.Granted,themajorityofpeoplemaynotunderstandtheconnectionbetweentheirstress-
fulwayoflivingtheirlivesandphysicaldisease,butnooneistotallycluelessastothemind-body
connection.Everyonehashadanexperienceofhowanaggingheadacheormigrainegoesawayafter
removingoneselffromastressfulsituation.Manypeoplefeeltheymustendurethesesituations“to
survive,”butofcourse,exceptforaveryfewpeople,mostdonotreallymeansurvivalinthereal
senseoftheword,whichmeanstoremainalive.Mostpeopleconsidersurvivingtomeanmorethan
juststayingalive.Theymustbeabletohaveanicehouse,inaniceneighborhood,andnicecar,etc.
Sotheymayconsideritanecessaryactofsurvivaltoworktwojobsorovertime,orevenstealor
murder,to“survive.”Theironyofcourseis,basedontheeffectsofTheStressResponsetheystimu-
latewithintheirbodies,theyareactuallyshorteningtheirlifespan,andwhateverlifespantheywill
have,chancesaretheywillbeplaguedbysomeformofdisease.Giventheaboveinformation,itisno
wonderthatintheU.S.Aaswellasothercountries,thehealthcaresystemisinacrisis,beingover-
whelmed by many middle aged and elderly patients with chronic diseases.
