Depressive illness affects more than 19 million adults in the United States. This number does not in-
clude their family members.
According to the year2000 World HealthOrganization:
The WHO examined seven countries and found that almost half of the people who suffered some
form of mental illness in their lifetime came from the United States.

Mental illnessis the “crisis of the 21stcentury.”
Dr. Gabriel Cousens:
“Ineverygenerationonauniversallypoordiet,thereisasuccessiveincreasingdegenerationinour
mentalandphysicalstate.Thishasbeenshowninanimalstudiesandwearenowfindingitinhuman
studies.Wehaveatleast 8 millionchildrenonRitalin.Atleast10%ofourchildrenhavehyperactiv-
ity,where 20 yearsagothatwasnotthecaseatall.Wehave 500 thousandchildrenonantidepress-
ants,particularlyProzac.Onehundredthousandchildrenareactivealcoholics.Ithastodowiththe
poornutritionoftheparents,whichaffectsthedevelopingbrainofthefetus.Thenthechildisraised
onaverypoordiet,sothebrain,whichmaybeageneticallyweakened,becomesevenmoresignific-
antlyweakened.Theirneurotransmittershaveloweramounts,theirendorphinsarenotworkingquite
rightandsotheirbrainisactuallyalteredtothepointwheretheyneedtodosomethingtofeelokay.
That takes us to the epidemic of addictions which are also mental health diseases.”
