withsweetnessandpraisewhentheyseeyouasfacilitatingtheirexperienceofhap-


piness,orcurseyouandwantyououtoftheirlifewhentheyseeyouasahindrance


tothatprocess.Intheworld,onecangofrombeingafriendtoenemyinthewinkof


an eye.


Forexample,supposeyouareacashier,andsomeproblemoccurswithyourma-


chineasyouarecheckingsomeoneout.Nowthispersonbecomesupsetwithyou.


Why?Becausetheyareperceivingyouasobstructingtheirexperienceofwhatthey


believeistruehappiness,whichtothemmaymeangoinghomeintimetocatchthe


sportssectionofthenewsontelevision.Whenoneisconstantlydependingoncer-


taindevelopmentsintheworldtobeabletorelaxandbehappy,oneissettingone-


selfuptoexperienceconstantmentalagitationandfrustration,asyouhavenodoubt


discoveredforyourself.Thereisanalmostconstantunderlyingpreoccupation(men-


talagitation)aboutwhetherornotthesituationwillmaterialize,orwillsomething


happentotwarthit.Thisunderlyingworry(mentalagitation),whichmaybeoccur-


ringmostlyatthesubconsciouslevelofmind,precludestheexperienceofabiding


peace,anddevelopsapsychologicalleaningordependencyontheworld,forone’s
