TheUSRDAarebasedonstandardstomaintainmarginalpreventionofvitamindeficiency,themin-
imumlevelneededtomaintainbasichealth.However,thesefiguresdonotrelatetooptimalhealth
maintenance.Despitethecautionssoundedbytheagencyanddrugmanufacturers,studieshave
shownthatitisnotharmfultoconsumetwotothreetimestherecommendedlevelsofvitamins(in-

RDAofsomeofthevitaminsthroughthefoodstheyeat,especiallyiftheytakeamultivitaminsup-
