Cupertino City Council had details of the
architectural design.
Plans were eventually approved in October
2013 and demolition began shortly after, with
unforeseen delays to the project meaning
it wasn’t ready for workers until April 2017.
However, by this time, it had already been
announced that the innovative auditorium at
the heart of the now officially named Apple Park
would honor the deceased CEO.
The Steve Jobs Theater hosted its first official
event on September 12, 2017, and the Apple
Park Visitor Center officially opened five days
later. Since then, local real estate value and
tourism to the area have both increased, and
the nearby elementary school and fire fighting
services will receive a large chunk of Apple Park’s
annual property tax fee.
THE LEGACY OF JOBS AND
THE MIND OF IVE
With Apple’s longstanding chief design officer,
Jony Ive, now officially stepping down from
his role, two of the most influential people
behind Apple Park will no longer be working
in the striking campus. During planning and
construction, Ive worked closely with architects
and engineers to ensure that Jobs’ vision and his
own passion for clean design were implemented
on every inch of the campus.
Imran Chaudhri, former design director of
Apple’s human interfaces groups, recently told
Fast Company how committed Ive was in his
quest for the visually stunning: “Jony’s greatest
design legacy, beyond form, beyond surface,
and beyond question is his relentless pursuit
