of beauty. Very few people in our industry care
about every aspect, every detail in service of
beauty as much as him.”

And throughout Apple Park, Ive’s pursuit of
beauty is evident. From the enormous circular
exterior of the campus to the eye-catching
curves of Steve Jobs Theater, minimalism is
the medium of every floor, ceiling and glass wall
throughout the campus. However, the feeling
is not one of a bare gallery or lifeless open-
plan office. Innovation is in every structure and
feature, from doors without handles to ceilings
without noticeable walls.

In fact, Steve Jobs Theater, which is surrounded
not by pillars but by 44 glass panels, could
afford to lose each and every panel in the
event of an earthquake, as it is built on
pendulum isolators that allow the structure to
remain relatively unmoved.

The ‘less is more’ approach throughout Apple
Park reflects the direction the company took
under the guidance of Jobs and Ive. Just
like with the iPhone, essential speakers and
communication antennas in the roof of Steve
Jobs Theater remain inconspicuous, and the
campus gives the impression that although
there isn’t much physically present, there is an
incredible amount of functionality built in.
