    Unproven Uses: Externally, White Mustard is used in
    poultices for congestion of the respiratory tract, for topical
    hyperemization of the skin as well as for segment therapy of
    chronic degenerative diseases affecting the joints and soft
    tissue. Mustard baths are used in the treatment of paralytic
    symptoms.


In folk medicine, Mustard is used to clear the voice. It is also
used in Mustard plasters and poultices as a counter-irritant.
Mustard is used in footbaths, and for the treatment of
paralytic symptoms in the form of Mustard baths.
Chinese Medicine: In China, White Mustard is used to treat
painfully swollen ribs and chest, coughs, vomiting, regurgi-
tation, ulcerous swelling and rheumatic pains.
Homeopathic Uses: Sinapis alba is used to treat inflamma-
tion of the gastrointestinal tract and the respiratory tract.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
White Mustard is contraindicated in gastrointestinal ulcers
and inflammatory kidney diseases. The drug should not be
given to children under 6 years of age.
PRECAUTIONS AND ADVERSE REACTIONS
General: No health hazards or side effects are known in
conjunction with the proper administration of designated
therapeutic dosages. The danger of nerve damage exists with
long-term intake. Long-term external application carries the
danger of skin injury. The drug possesses minimal potential
for sensitization (possible cause of food allergies).

Pediatric Use: White Mustard preparations should not be
used in children under 6 years of age.
OVERDOSAGE
Gastrointestinal complaints could appear following the
intake of large quantities, due to the mucous membrane-
irritating effect of the Mustard oil.
DOSAGE
Mode of Administration: The drug is used internally as well
as externally. Ground or powdered seeds are used for
poultices.
Preparation: To prepare an external foot bath, 20 to 30 gm
of the Mustard flour in 1 liter of water is used. To prepare a
Mustard bath, 150 gm of the Mustard flour in a pouch is used
in the bathwater.

Daily Dosage: The average daily dose of the drug is 60 to
240 gm. To brighten and clear the voice, Mustard flour is

stirred with honey and formed into balls. 1 to 2 are taken
orally on an empty stomach.

For external use, just prior to application, mix 50 to 70 gm of
the powdered seeds with warm water to prepare a poultice.
The poultice is applied for 10 to 15 minutes for adults and i
for 5 to 10 minutes for children, except for those with
sensitive skin where the usage should be shortened. Treat-
ment should not exceed 2 weeks.

Homeopathic Dosage: 5 drops, 1 tablet or 10 globules every
30 to 60 minutes (acute) or 1 to 3 times daily (chronic);
parenterally: 1 to 2 ml sc, acute: 3 times daily; chronic: once
a day (HAB34)

Storage: The drug must be protected from light and
moisture.

DESCRIPTION
Medicinal Parts: The medicinal parts are the flowers and
leaves.

Flower and Fruit: The white, fairly large bilabiate flowers
are in axillary false whorls of 6 to 16 flowers. The
campanulate calyx is green and has 5 tips. The tube of the
corolla is bent like a knee and the upper lip is curved like a
helmet with a ciliate margin. The lower lip is gordate. The
tube has 1 large and 1 small tip at the edge. There are 2 long
and 2 short stamens under the upper lip. The calyx remains
