Crude,diluteextracts(tinctureandfluidextract)
and the essential oil.A. absinthiumwas for-
merly official in U.S.P. (1830–1890) (BOYLE).


Regulatory Status. Approved for food use as
a natural flavoring substance, provided the


finished food is thujone-free (§172.510).
A. absinthiumis found in various European
pharmacopoeias, including the British Phar-
macopoeia (BP) and EP (EVANS). The herb is
subject of a German Commission E mono-
graph (BLUMENTHAL1).
