HAIRDRESSERS AGAINST AIDS PROGRAM CONTINUES
ITS EXPANSION, BEING NOW DEVELOPED IN CLOSE TO
40 COUNTRIES ON FIVE CONTINENTS AND COUNTING
MORE THAN 1,5 MILLION INVOLVED HAIRDRESSERS
PLAYING AN ACTIVE ROLE IN THE PREVENTION
OF HIV/AIDS. IN 2012, THE PROGRAM OF L’ORÉAL
FOUNDATION IN PARTNERSHIP WITH UNESCO REIN-
FORCES ITS COMMITMENT THROUGH A WORLDWIDE
CAMPAIGN VIA SOCIAL MEDIA TO REACH YOUTH.

Hairdressers Against Aids is an awareness campaign sup-
ported by the profession around the world which demons-
trates the important role that hairdressers can have
among their community as explained by An Verhulst-Santos,
Worldwide President, L’Oréal Professional Product
division:

"The important role the hairdresser plays in all lives, par-
ticularly in women’s lives is a privilege position to deal
with very personal and intimate topics like HIV/AIDS. Hair-
dressers often spend several hours with their clients and
this relationship can be a very personal one, making the
hairdressing salon a genuine location of social and human
interaction. Through training that is brief, clear, innovative
and without due pressures, this programme provides hair-
dressers with information that is accurate and useful on
HIV and AIDS. For an issue like HIV/AIDS, we must be able
to count on the power of words, a power available to each
and every one of us, because the really essential point is
to talk about it."

Hairdressers Against AIDS goal is to alert the public to the
risks of HIV/AIDS, while also working to fight against the
negative behavior and stigmas associated with the disease.
In addition to providing professional services, a hairdresser
often acts as a confidant, offering a listening ear to salon
clients. Through these initiatives and interactive tools, the
program encourages the community of participating hair-
dressers to use their power of voice to spread the word
about prevention. Here are some examples of their involve-
ment around the world: hairdressers have used their skills,
their power and their voice to support public awareness on
HIV/AIDS, showcasing their very strong social commitment
to this cause.
Held annually, STYLE AID aims to raise awareness
