Dream On – Underware
This image shows the result of a typography workshop
held by the design group Underware in Lausanne in 2005.
Shopping trolleys were arranged in an empty car park to give
shape to the word ‘dream’ on a grand scale. One could argue
that the lack of clarity about the exact purpose of this piece
makes it a piece of art. On the other hand, the relationship
between the word ‘dream’ and the empty shopping trolleys,
which shape the word, can be easily interpreted as an
ironic comment on consumerism. Or were the shopping
trolleys chosen as objects merely for their translucent
appearance to help the dream-like scenario? What exactly
was intended remains ambiguous, but is it not precisely this
inconclusiveness that keeps the viewer’s mind occupied?
