This book is based on a three-year research study that
I conducted at the Royal College of Art, London, with the
support of Al Rees and Jon Wozencroft. But my interest
in virtual typography as well as the concept behind
my Studio for Virtual Typography dates back much
further. I would like to thank everyone who contributed
to this lengthy, and at times tiring process. Without the
encouragement and extraordinary support of the people
listed below I would never have been able to push the
boundaries to this extent.

None of the work samples featured in this book are
the result of a ‘call for entries’. Instead the projects
were carefully chosen over a long period of time. I am
very grateful to all contributors, who made it possible
to illustrate my argument and who provided their input
allowing me to explain the work in this much detail.

With regards to my business development I need to
thank Clare Monaghan and Paul Moody from the NFTS.
Furthermore I would like to thank the Royal College of
Art as well as Amersham & Wycombe College for their
support, and AVA Publishing for their keen interest in my
writing – it has been a great pleasure working with both
Caroline Walmsley and Leafy Robinson. I would also
like to thank James West of Create/Reject for being so
accommodating and for addressing my suggestions and
concerns. Last, but not least, I would like to dedicate this
book to my daughter Aiyana Siân who inspired me to
create Loss of Love.
