Thesegrainystillswereallthepublicsawoftheconfiscatedfilmfor

morethanadecade.^14 Thesequenceswerecertainlyavoyeuristicspectacle,

buttheykeptatarm’slengththefullimpactofthefilm.Brokendownon

thepagetheeventwasverydifficulttofolloworreconstruct.Theframes

werenotlaidoutinatruesequenceandcrucial(gruesome)frameswere

omitted.Moretothepoint,asthefilmmakerPierPaoloPasolininoted,

thepowerofthefootagelayinitbeinganuneditedlongtake.Theviewer

staresjustasthecamerastared,butwherethecamerawasunknowing,
