4.4.4 Demonstrating and Explaining How to Walk on a Treadmill
Exhibit 4-27. Demonstrate and explain how to walk on a treadmill
When the heart rate and blood data are captured, the ISIS system displays a second
visual message: ‘Demonstrate and explain how to walk on a treadmill.’
Press “Start Belt” and increase the speed of the treadmill to 2.0 mph.
Explain the procedures step-by-step as you demonstrate.
Straddle the belt and hold onto the handrail with both hands.
Tell them to ‘paw’ the belt with one foot to get a feel for the movement of the belt and
then step on the treadmill and begin to walk.
Place emphasis on the importance of an upright posture, looking straight ahead nor
down at the feet, and taking long steps with a relaxed gait. Drop one arm by the side
and then the other one.
Step off the belt and press Stop Belt on treadmill controller. Press Clear on treadmill
controller.
Press OK to the message on ISIS screen.
Advance to the treadmill test screen after you have given the demonstration.
