this change. If the SP’s HR is above 80 percent of PMHR at any time in Stage 1,
determine if the SP is OK by observing color, breathing, and gait for signs of severe
fatigue and ask the SP how he or she is feeling.

„ During Stage 2, the SP’s heart rate should be below 85 percent of the predicted
maximal heart rate (90% for SPs 12 through 1 8 years). The continuum changes to
reflect these numbers. The ISIS system will display 85 percent or 90 percent based on
the age of the SP. If the SPs HR is above these criteria at any time in Stage 2,
determine if the SP is OK by observing signs and symptoms as described for Stage 1.

„ During Recovery, the SP’s heart rate is expected to decrease back to approximately
110 beats per minute or less. The continuum changes to reflect the 50 percent PMHR.
This is used as a guideline.

When this screen initially comes up, the ISIS system displays a visual message and gives the
same auditory message:

“Choose exercise protocol on treadmill controller. Have SP straddle the belt, then
press ‘Start Belt’.”
