The middle protocol is the predetermined protocol for this SP. (This would be
protocol # 6 in this example.) Enter the predetermined protocol on the treadmill
controller. (See Section 3.9.2 for details.)
Press the Clear button on the treadmill controller to reset the treadmill setting.
Press Input plus (+) or minus (–) to move through protocols 1 to 8. Select the
predetermined protocol (the middle protocol on the ISIS screen)
4.5.3 Getting the SP on the Treadmill
You just demonstrated and explained the treadmill test after the BP and HR data were
captured. Now you want to get the SP on the treadmill to start the Warm-up phase.
You will need to repeat the explanation step-by-step. Don’t assume that the SP will
know how to walk on a treadmill.
Have the SP straddle the treadmill belt on treadmill controller.
Press “Start Belt” and increase the speed of the treadmill to 2.0 mph.
Repeat the explanation as outlined below.
Get the SP to straddle the belt and hold onto the handrail with both hands.
Tell them to ‘paw’ the belt with one foot to get a feel for the movement of the belt and
then instruct them to step on the treadmill and begin to walk.
Tell them to use an upright posture and look straight ahead. Once they have started,
get them to drop one arm by their side and then the other one. Click OK.
They should now be walking slowly on the treadmill and ready to begin the test.
At this point they are walking very slowly and you should go to Warm-up as soon as
he or she seems to be getting somewhat comfortable walking on the belt.
