„ Confirm treadmill controller settings for speed and grade for all protocols. The chief
technologist is responsible for doing this check. See Section 2.2.3 for details and
Appendix J for the Speed and Grade Table by Protocol and Stage. These procedures
and the table are also on the laminated Quick Reference cards in the CV Fitness room.

„ Confirm with the data manager that the BP monitor is plugged into the UPS. Enter
‘Confirmed with the data manager’ in the Comment field.

„ Confirm with the data manager that the UPS for BP monitor and treadmill are on
different power circuits. Enter ‘Confirmed with the data manager’ in the Comment
field. If not, ask him/her to do this and then enter ‘Confirmed with the data manager’
in the Comment field. The BP monitor should be plugged into the UPS in the room to
minimize the ‘noise’ to the monitor from the treadmill and other sources.

„ Calibrate SECA scale - Full. If the scale is off by 1 pound or more with the 5 weights
placed on it, inform the MEC manager. A replacement scale will be sent to the MEC.
See Section 2.4.1 for calibration procedures.

„ Calibrate SECA stadiometer. If the reading is off by greater than 1 cm, inform the
MEC manager. Use the stadiometer until a replacement is sent. See Section 2.4.2 for
calibration procedures.

„ When the ‘Start of Stand’ checks are complete, click ‘OK’ to close the QC checks.
