„ Compare these values with the value on the mercury manometer.

„ The numbers on the STBP LED display should be within +/- 5 of the reading at eye
level on the mercury manometer.

„ Loosen the screw and slowly deflate the cuff to a reading on the manometer in the
next range.

„ Press the RESET switch to deflate pressure.

„ Press the MANUAL switch to release the MANUAL mode.

„ Repeat these steps for each of the ranges listed above.

„ If the number is within +/- 5, enter a check beside this item on the Quality Control
Screen. See Figures 6-9 to 6-11.

If the BP calibration checks are not within the acceptable range (more than 5):

„ Check connections with Y-connector, air hoses, and cuff for leaks.

„ If the BP calibration checks are not within the acceptable range, enter the
difference between the mercury manometer reading and the reading on the STBP
monitor in the ‘Result’ field (Example: Difference = 8mmHg).

„ Enter the reading on the manometer and the reading on the STBP monitor in the
‘Comments’ field (Example: Manometer = 110; STBP=118).

„ Notify the MEC manager and chief technologist. Make a note of this in the
‘Comments’ section (Example: Reported to the MEC manager).

„ If the difference between the readings differ by more than 5 mm Hg, the STBP
monitor will need to be returned to the manufacturer for calibration.

„ NOTE: Notify the home office if the difference is greater than 3mmHg. This is an
‘early warning alert’. Continue to use the monitor for pressure measurement. This
allows time to have the unit replaced and serviced in a timely manner without
compromising data.
