„ Allow the SP to hold onto the handrails for a little while into the Warm-Up Stage.
Work with the SP to try to get both hands off the handrail by the end of the first
minute in Warm-Up if possible.

3.9.6 Warm-up (00:00 - 02:0 0 Minutes)


„ When OK was pressed as indicated above, the system will give an auditory message:

“Simultaneously press START on the ISIS screen and press START COURSE on
treadmill controller.”

„ Click ‘START’ on the ISIS screen to start the timer for the test.

AND

„ Press ‘START COURSE’ on the treadmill controller to begin the Warm-up stage for
the predetermined protocol selected for the SP.

„ The timer will start for the 2-minute Warm-up. At the end of each stage, the timer will
reset to zero and begin the next stage.

„ When START COURSE is pressed on the treadmill controller, the treadmill will
increase to the speed and grade for the predetermined Warm-up stage for the selected
protocol.

„ The system will automatically capture BP and HR at the end of each stage.

„ Throughout the Warm-up stage, monitor the %HRmax scale on the ISIS screen. The
SP’s HR should be up to the 60 percent range. The %HRmax scale displays the HR
in beats per minute for 50 percent, 60 percent, and 100 percent of PMHR for the SP.
The SP’s current HR will be displayed on the BP monitor. If this reading is above or
below the 50 percent to 60 percent range, follow the procedures below:

„ If %HRmax is below 50 percent or above 60 percent, see Section 3.12 for protocol
change procedure.

„ If %HRmax is within the 50 percent - 60 percent range, continue with present
preprogrammed protocol.

3.9.7 RPE Explanation and Assessment


„ Rating of perceived exertion (RPE) will be obtained at the end of Warm-up, Stage 1,
and Stage 2. This scale will be explained to the SP during the first minute of Warm-
up.
