At 1:50 minutes into Warm-up, the system will give an auditory message:
“Press NEXT STAGE on treadmill controller at 1 minute 57 seconds.”
Technologist should press NEXT STAGE on the Treadmill Controller at exactly
01:57 minutes into Warm-up.
This will change the treadmill to Stage 1.
3.9.8 Stage 1 (00:0 0 - 03:00 Minutes)
The system will reset the timer to zero for Stage 1.
Throughout the Stage 1, monitor the %HRmax scale on ISIS screen. Indicator should
be within 60 percent - 80 percent range.
If the SPs HR goes above the 80 percent range:
- Determine if the SP is OK by observing his or her color, breathing and gait for
signs of severe fatigue and ask how he or she is doing. - Ask for the RPE. You do not have to record the RPE unless it is at the end of
the stage. - If the SP looks OK, does not ask to stop, and RPE is not greater than 17,
continue with the test. - Continue to monitor very closely for signs of exhaustion and stop the test if the
SP’s symptoms warrant ending the test. - If the SP is not OK, the RPE is greater than 17, or the SP asks to stop, confirm
that the SP understands what he or she is rating and if he or she still gives a
rating of greater than 17, you go to the Recovery stage by pressing ‘Go to
Recovery’ on the ISIS screen. See 3.13.2 for detailed procedures.
At 02:30 minutes into Stage 1, the system will give an auditory message:
“Get RPE assessment”
The technologist will ask the SP to give his or her rating of perceived exertion.
