Cardiovascular Fitness Procedures Manual

(coco) #1
„ The system will automatically set the BP monitor to start the BP measurement at
02:10 minutes into Stage 1. The end of Stage 1 BP and HR measurement will be
captured at approximately 02:40 to 0 2 :50 minutes into Stage 1.

„ The system will give the following auditory message:

“Check heart rate on monitor.”

„ The ISIS system will then display a visual message:

“Compare heart rate on blood pressure monitor with captured heart rate on ISIS
screen. Enter a manual heart rate ONLY if they differ by more than 5 beats.”

„ Note the heart rate on the blood pressure monitor and compare this number with the
captured heart rate on the ISIS screen. If the captured heart rate on the ISIS screen
does not differ by more than 5 beats from the heart rate on the BP monitor, click OK
and continue the test.

„ Five seconds before the stage ends, all the LEDs in that column flash, warning that the
speed and grade will change soon.

„ When the stage ends, the top and bottom LEDs turn yellow and the bottom LED in the
next stage begins to flash.

„ The treadmill will automatically change to the speed and grade for Stage 2.

3.9.9 Stage 2 (00:0 0 - 03:00 Minutes)

After 3 minutes in Stage 1, the speed and grade move to the values preprogrammed into the

second stage for the selected protocol.

„ Throughout Stage 2, monitor %HRmax scale on ISIS screen. The heart rate should be:

  • below 90 percent for 12- through 18-year-olds, and

  • below 85 percent for 19- through 49-year-olds.

„ If the %HRmax is above 8 5 percent (or 90% for 12- through 18-year-olds):

  • Determine if the SP is OK by observing his or her color, breathing, and gait for
signs of severe fatigue and ask how he or she is doing.

  • Ask for the RPE. You do not have to record the RPE unless it is at the end of
    the stage.
