3.13. 2 Priority 2 Stopping Criteria


„ SP HR during Warm-up, Stage 1 or Stage 2 exceeds 90 percent for 12- through 18­
year-olds or 85 percent PMHR for 19- through 4 9 - year-olds and SP is unable to
continue.

„ SP HR exceeds 80 percent PMHR during Stage 1.

„ SP HR exceeds 100% during Warm-up, Stage 1 or Stage 2.

„ Exercise blood pressure > 260 mmHg systolic and/or >115 mmHg diastolic.

„ Significant drop (>20 mmHg) in systolic blood pressure during exercise.

„ SP reports RPE > 17.

„ Failure of systolic blood pressure to rise with increasing exercise intensity.

„ Failure of heart rate to increase by more than 5 beats/minute during a given workload
compared to the previous workload.

„ Repeated noticed variability during a stage (sudden changes of + 30 beats/minute)
after checking electrode connections.

„ SP requests to stop test, or reports severe fatigue.

„ Failure of testing equipment.

„ SP is unable to stop gripping handrails (lightly touching handrails for balance
purposes is allowed, but only if absolutely necessary). This criterion should cause the
system to set the component status to “Partial” with the comment “unable to follow
protocol.’

„ Technologist discretion (technologist notices signs of severe exertion).

If one or more of the above criteria are present, terminate test and allow SP to actively cool

down:


„ Press “GO TO RECOVERY” button on the ISIS screen.

„ The system will record the time spent in the current stage.

„ The timer will be reset to 00:00 on the ISIS screen for the Recovery stages. The
system will give an auditory message :

“Change treadmill controller to Recovery Stage of current protocol.”
