providesdatarelevanttooftencompletelydifferentsetsofquestionsthan
thoseaddressedbytexts.Itallowsopportunitiestoexploreanthropologi-
cal and sociologicalissues on which texiS areoftensilent: diet, living
conditions,tools,domesticarrangements,andthelike.Controlledbythe
questionwhetherornotthiscommunitywascelibate,womenwereprim~l­
rilycategoriestoincludeorcxclude,andoncewomenweremarginalized,
evidencerelatedtothem waslargelyignored(besidesskeletons,there
werefoundtwospindlewhorls,awoodencomb,anda smallamountof
