who has spent the last two years in a loving
home. He is deaf, which meant I couldn’t use sound
to get his attention. I needn’t have worried though,
because he gave me so many beautiful moments.
He is a wonderful old dog with plenty of charisma.’DENISE’S TOP TIPS
1 Be patient while photographing dogs. You can
often use sounds to attract their attention, or just
wait until they show you their nature.
2 It’s always good to be on the same eye level as a
dog, so for this shot I sat with Merlin.Honey Saluki

‘I love working with sighthounds, but
the usual props photographers rely on
are useless with these creatures. Each time
I photograph a dog I have to come up with a
new idea to make it work. This shot features
a Saluki named Joseline in a fi eld.’
