Staying Healthy in the Fast Lane

(Nandana) #1
the triad exercise program

to stay with your overall program and ultimately be successful in
your fitness goals.
If the hotel does not have an exercise room, look for a space in
your room to stretch and do push-ups, chair-dips, etc. I find a space
in my hotel room to do a little yoga or even practice some dance
steps, listening to a salsa CD or do my Rodney Yee’s A.M. Yoga for
Your Week DVD (Gaiam Americas Inc, 2008) from my computer for
fifteen minutes. It is not my perfect workout, but it is much bet-
ter than nothing. Bring one or two of your favorite exercise DVDs
and plug them into your laptop if you brought one. Also, ask the
concierge or front-desk staff if there is a safe place to walk around
the hotel.
On a cruise or at an all-inclusive resort, check out the gym and
see if there are any classes you might like to sign up for (yoga, aero-
bics, dance, etc.) or go work out.
If there is something physically active you like to do (dancing,
swimming, snorkeling, boogie boarding, hiking, aerobics, yoga,
etc.), find it where you are traveling! It’s easy in this modern world:
Just Google the city name and the activity. I’m a dancer, so I always
check out salsa and lindy hop dance venues near where I am going
on vacation or business.
If your vacation is outdoors and near nature, hiking and swim-
ming are enjoyable and productive ways to exercise.
Even if you can’t keep up your normal routine when away, do
something! Remember that exercise is cumulative. You won’t
lose that much from your regular fitness routine if you do some-
thing while away from home.
