Being overweight and obesity increase the risks for the follow-
ing diseases in adults:^9



  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)

  • Dyslipidemia (for example, high total cholesterol or high lev-
    els of triglycerides)

  • Type 2 diabetes

  • Coronary heart disease

  • Stroke

  • Liver and gallbladder disease

  • Osteoarthritis (a degeneration of cartilage and its underlying
    bone within a joint)

  • Sleep apnea and respiratory problems

  • Some cancers (endometrial, breast, and colon)

  • Gynecological problems (abnormal menses, infertility)
