of our emotions. Practice is just another word for
being a student. The information given here helps
you understand the way to read poetry; what to look
for, what to expect.
With all of this in mind, I really don’t think I
would actually like to have a poet’s job at all. There
are too many skills involved, including precision,
honesty, taste, courage, linguistics, passion, com-
passion, and the ability to keep all sorts of people
entertained at once. And that is just what they do

with one hand, while the other hand pulls some sort
of trick that most of us will never fully understand.
I can’t even pack all that I need for a weekend into
one suitcase, so what would be my chances of stuff-
ing so much life into a few lines? With all that Po-
etry for Studentstells us about each poem, I am
impressed that any poet can finish three or four po-
ems a year. Read the inside stories of these poems,
and you won’t be able to approach any poem in the
same way you did before.
