thanthisvalue,theresultantimagewillhavetheblackline
of the shutter skimming the edge of the image. Most
studioswillshootaround160thofasecond,enoughto
stopsomeactionandmovementyetwellwithinthesync
threshold.

Forthegreatestqualityof image,andthemostcontrol,
thecamerashouldbesettocaptureRAWimages;this
willgiveyouthehighestdynamicrangefromyourimage,
and the greatest ability to manipulate in post production.

Reflectors

The reflector is more commonly used when shooting
portraitureonlocation,but itcanstillbe valuablein the
studio.Usedintheplaceofanextrafilllightthereflector
canaddmoreshapeintothefinalimagewiththesoftness
and subtlety of a large softbox.


Primarilyusedtobounceflashbackontothesubjectwhen
placedontheoppositesideofthekeylight,itspurposeis
to fill in any shadows and darker areasof the portrait,
althoughtoalesserstrengththanthemainlightsoasnotto
flattentheimageinanyway.Whenthesubjectislitfrom
above, the reflector can also be placed underneath the
subjecttopushlightintostrongershadowedareas,suchas
under the chin or the nose.
