Simply explained,the rule of thirds is where an image
spaceisdividedevenlywithfourlines,twoverticallyand
twohorizontally,tocreateanequally spacedgridpattern
over thearea.Theseguidelines andwhere theyintersect
witheach otherarethenusedto positionthemain focal
points oftheimage,to createimpactand tension.These
points where
thelinescrossaresometimesreferredtoastheeyesofa
rectangle.


Within portraiture, the general rule of thumb for good
aestheticcompositionistoplacethesubject’seyesormain
point of interest towards the top third of the frame.
