Leading Lines

Leadinglinesinanimage,especiallyinportraiture,canbe
hugely useful to the photographer, as they can add a
wonderful graphic element to the structure of an image
with anarrative qualityof distanceand space.By using
leadinglines–suchaspathways,roads,traintracks–to
placeyoursubject,youwilldirectlydrawtheattentionof
the viewer to the main point of focus of the image.


Lookingfordifferenttypes oflinesinthescenecanaid
compositionandaddmeaning.Variouslinesandhowthe
photographer decides to utilize them willcreate another
element within the image.


Vertical lines used in an image will create a sense of
strength,powerand dominance.Ifrepeatedin theframe
they can create a very graphic pattern, useful to the
photographer.
