Therearestandardshutterspeedvaluesacrossallmakesof
camera,making them very easy for theuser to become
accustomed to. They are uniformly stepped at specific
levels,sothatopeningoneaperturestopandreducingthe
shutter speed by one step will result in an identical
exposure, making the balancing act between these two
variables vastly more accurate.


Whenshootinghandheldandespeciallywithsomeofthe
heavier lenses (zoom or telephoto) it would not be
advisable to opt for a slower shutter speed (longer
exposure)astheimagemaybeaffectedbycamerashake,
where the photographer is simply not able to hold the
camerasteadyfortherequiredexposure time.Theexact
speedforthiswillvary,butwouldbearound100thofa
secondtoreasonablyruleitout.Ifthephotographerwishes
toshootataslowershutterspeeditwouldbeadvisableto
use a sturdy tripod to mount the camera along with a
shutter-release cable.
