SYNCING THE CAMERA SHUTTER SPEED TO THE
STUDIO FLASH

When shooting in the studio setting the photographer
mustbeawareoftheflashsyncexposuretimeoftheir
particularcamerabody,soastoavoidusingsuchahigh
shutterspeedthatiteffectivelycapturesthemotionofthe
shutter.Thiswillbeevidentifattheedgeofyourimage
you produce a blurred black band.

Although you will want to rule out camera shake,
movementinanimagemaywellbeusedasacreativetool
tocreateadynamicandinterestinthepiece.Panningand
moving the camera with the subject can produce some
interesting effects. With a little understanding and
experimentationyoucancapturemovementwiththeuseof
thelongerexposuresandcancreatesomedramaticresults.
In theseinstances youmayneed to shoota few frames
before you achieve the desired outcome.


There are two other shutter speed values that can be
utilized for longer exposures.



  • B(Bulb):Wheretheshutterwillremainopenwhilstthe
    shutter release is held.
